So we are exactly 20 days away from a big adventure. We are going on a road trip in Spain for 15 days and we have a road trip planned from Madrid to Barcelona, to the southern coastal cities, Seville, and back to Madrid!
This is a trip that we had planned for December 2020 but as we all know, COVID ruined a good chunk of that year. And with kids in college, our schedules seldom coincide, so winter break with two weeks of no school for any of us is the perfect time for a road trip to see all of the coastal cities of Spain.
We watch a lot of Mediterranean Life and there are quite a few expatriates from the USA who call Spain their home. Some say that the region has the best weather in Europe. Not only does Andalusia have mild winters, its summer climate lasts from May until the end of November. So we won't be seeing snow on this trip!
The way that we plan for these long trips is Google Docs. Yup! We create a Google Doc and share it with all of the members going. Ask for input on what to do in each city. Plan out and book hotels. Budget how many museums we can afford to explore, and get a general picture for what our trip will look like. We aren't strict at all to the schedule, but the research gives us an idea of things that are popular and need prior booking, or things to watch out for and avoid - like museums on Monday because they are all closed on Mondays. Go figure.
It's about 1,500 miles and if we drove it straight, it would be 25 hours.
We have a big rental car booked and plans for a two week road trip starting and ending in Madrid. You can follow along by coming back here for updates!
